MY WASH DAY REGIMEN (21st DECEMBER)

So, as i mentioned in the earlier post i took off my protective style (kinky twist out braids) on saturday.  and since my hair has been in protective style for 31 days i did a pre- shampooing with coconut oil, rosemary oil amd sweet almond oil on friday night. yes.  i mixed about three table spoons of coconut oil, a table spoon full of sweet almond oil and two drops of rosemary oil. i poured the mixer in to a sray bottle and warmed in it hot water for a few minutes, after which i gradually sprayed the oil under my scalp till i got the hot oil under my whole scalp. i then massaged the oil under my scalp for five minutes then i covered my hair with a shower cup tied my hair with a satin scarf and went to bed.
On saturday wich was the wash day removed my braids. picture beneath
I
I shampooed my hair using TRESemme Vitamin C DEEP CLEANSING Shampoo after wish i dried my hair partially with a T shirt.

i then followed by applying  TRESemme CLEANSE AND REPLENISH pro-vitamin b5 & aloe re- moisture conditioner under my scalp, i then massaged the conditioner under my scalp and making sure my strands were fully covered with the conditioner. i covered my hair with a shower cup for 20 minutes to enable the conditioner do its work well. i rinsed after 20  minutes.
I dried my hair with the T shirt. i then detangled my hair and applied my American silky straight she butter leave in conditioner.
i realized it made my hair soft an my hair loves it too. : ) . i parted my hair in to four section after combing and did a Bantu knot . i left my hair to air dry because i trying to stay away from heat for now since I'm transitioning i don't want anything to jeopardize my toe textured hair ( relaxed and the new growth) I'm 10 weeks post relaxer.

After my hair was 80% air dried i applied jojoba oil and then followed it with my Elasta Qp Olive oil and mango butter Moisturizer. hmmm ilove the smell of this moisturizer and my hair loves it too, not too oily. i then styled my hair.

Oh did i mention i did my first measurement of my new growth and almost hitting an inch hurray. I'm loving my new growth cant wait.please note: Patience is Key When Transitioning from Relaxed to Natural Hair.

AMLA HAIR OIL FOR HAIR GROWTH

Ever wondered why the Indian women have long silky healthy looking hair ? well guess what i just found out a little secret that i want to share with you. Ever heard of the name AMLA ? WELL IT IS A FRUIT FOUND IN INDIA IT IS ALSO CALLED THE INDIAN GOOSE BERRY. i deceded to do a little research on it so i can give my own opinion of this wonderful fruit.

Sourced from the Indian gooseberry (Emblica officinalis, a tree native to India), amla oil has long been used in Ayuverdic Medicines. Featuring a number of essential fatty acids, amla oil is thought to strengthen the hair follicles and condition the hair. Proponents also claim that amla oil can help treat dry, itchy scalp.i also found out that besides essential fatty acids, amla fruit are high in Vitamin C, flavonoids, polyphenols, and also contain water, protein, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals.

Now lets jump to how the Amla oil is used for the hair, it is usually used as a conditioner after shampooing, massage the oil on your scalp and leave it for at least 15 minutes and rinse off. alternatively you can also use it for your pre-poos and leave it overnight, then you can wash the hair afterward. please note that due to the strong smell of the oil, it is not adviced to use as a leave in conditioner or for styling.

Guess what , since i did not want to loose out on all the benefits this oil gives i went scouting for one and i did find one, oh no thats a lie i actually got myself two of the 200mls lol. well you cant blame me its difficult to find these things in Ghana.
i got the Dabur Amla Oil from an indian small supermarket called Sagaar supermarket Osu.
please get yours , use it as im going to use mine this saturday, then i can do a review on it.
let me know how it worked for your hair if you decide to get one. cheers to that beautiful, silky, long, healthy hair with AMLA.

It will interest you to know that because of the great benefits Amla has on the hair, some hair product companies have started coming out with Hair care ranges that are infused with Amla. some of the hair product brands are Optimum and Dark and Lovely. mORE NATURAL OILS KNOWN TO BE GREAT FOR HAIR ARE NOW BEEN INFUSED IN TO HAIR CARE PRODUCTS BY MANUFACTURERS.

GOING FROM RELAXED HAIR TO NATURAL HAIR. (TRANSITIONING)

Relaxing hair gives you six to eight weeks or so of beautifully straight and silky hair. However, the transition from relaxed hair into natural hair is tough - odd curly bits, split ends and endless breakage. Don't lose hope, since there is a recovery route. Getting back to your "natural" beauty is a beautiful thing and an interesting road to self discovery. Happy transitioning!!

SCIENCE OF HAIR

Hair is far more complex than it appears on the surface. We all know that it not only plays a vital role in the appearance of both men and women, but it also helps to transmit sensory information as well as create gender identification.

The Origins of Hair

By week 22, a developing fetus has all of its hair follicles formed. At this stage of life there are about 5 million hair follicles on the body. There are a total of one million on the head, with one hundred thousand of those follicles residing on the scalp. This is the largest number of hair follicles a human will ever have, since we do not generate new hair follicles anytime during the course of our lives.
Most people will notice that the density of scalp hair is reduced as they grow from childhood to adulthood. The reason: Our scalps expand as we grow.

Hair Follicles

Hair has two distinct structures - first, the follicle itself, which resides in the skin, and second, the shaft, which is what is visible above the scalp.
The hair follicle is a tunnel-like segment of the epidermis that extends down into the dermis. The structure contains several layers that all have separate functions. At the base of the follicle is the papilla, which contains capillaries, or tiny blood vessels that nourish the cells. The living part of the hair is the very bottom part surrounding the papilla, called the bulb. The cells of the bulb divide every 23 to 72 hours, remarkably faster than any other cell in the body.
Two sheaths, an inner and outer sheath, surround the follicle. These structures protect and form the growing hair shaft. The inner sheath follows the hair shaft and ends below the opening of a sebaceous (oil) gland, and sometimes an apocrine (scent) gland. The outer sheath continues all the way up to the gland. A muscle called an erector pili muscle attaches below the gland to a fibrous layer around the outer sheath. When this muscle contracts, it causes the hair to stand up which also causes the sebaceous gland to secrete oil.
The sebaceous gland is vital because it produces sebum, which conditions the hair and skin. After puberty our body produces more sebum but as we age we begin to make less sebum. Women have far less sebum production than men do as they age.

Hair Shafts

The hair shaft is made of a hard protein called keratin and is made in three layers. This protein is actually dead, so the hair that you see is not a living structure. The inner layer is the medulla. The second layer is the cortex and the outer layer is the cuticle. The cortex makes up the majority of the hair shaft. The cuticle is a tightly formed structure made of shingle-like overlapping scales. It is both the cortex and the medulla that holds the hair's pigment, giving it its color.
